The blog is morphing.

Things change. Over the past year I've spend about 20 hours a week writing, tweaking and generally futzing to make this blog happen like I wanted it to. It's been fun and grown with a lot of regular readers, but I've decided to go with a simpler approach to putting up content. This will allow me to dedicate needed time to work on two books, writing music and other projects and duties I've been neglecting.

Squarespace has been a wonderful blogging service. I can't say enough good things about them. But the process to get things looking slick requires the desktop and I prefer to do as much as I can on iPad. I'm switching to using an iPad app called Chronicle. It's basically a diary app that allows you to export your journal as a website. I'm combing through my blog content and porting over the most popular stuff into Chronicle. So if you found something you need to refer back to on my blog, most likely it will still be a WolfeWithAnE.com, though not necessarily through the original link. Chronicle gives me a way to update posts to keep them fresh. This has been a problem on most blogging platforms. The index page is here. Following on Twitter is a good way to check the latest content. Or visit the the new lean, mean Wolfe (with an e) site

For a while the current Squarespace blog is here and you can find all previous articles by search.

LAUNCH WITH A TAP Many of your contact fields launch other apps. Tap an email address and it open a me addressed email. Tap a URL and the site opens in Safari. Tap an address and it owns in Maps.

ADDING TWITTER AND SKYPE TO CONTACTS You can add Twitter and Skype addresses to a contact. Tap a Twitter name and it takes you to their Twitter page where you can Tweet them. Tap the link and it opens the Skype app to call that person.

- Open the entry in Contacts.

- Tap the Edit button.

- Scroll down to the open field that contains "URL".

- Tap the name of the field and set it to "Twitter". (If Twitter is not there you may need to add it.)

- Tap the URL field, and enter "twitter:@*TWITTERNAME*

The same trick can be used for Skype. Enter "skype:*SKYPENAME*" in the URL field.

USE AS A DATABASE Contacts is a fundamental database app that you can add custom fields to. This can make it useful for recipes, encyclopedia type entries, etc.

iPad Twitter tricks.

iOS5 added tweetabilities from pretty much everywhere in the system you can send an email from. Tweet a location in Maps, a URL from Safari, a video from YouTube, a Photo from Photos, a contact from Contacts. You can also tweet from many 3rd party apps. To start using tweeting on your iPad, add your Twitter account(s) in Settings. Also install the official Twitter app. (http://bit.ly/xef6zu) Really solid and free. Unless otherwise noted, all references below have been tested with the official Twitter app.

SEARCH TWEETS BY LOCATION Search "near:ZIPCODE" and you'll get geotagged tweets sent from anyone in the zip.

GET FOLLOWED The easiest way to get followed is to follow others and many will follow you back. But don't just follow anybody. Follower those that are genuinely interested in what you're interested in. • Do a People search for topics you're interested in like "ukulele" or "photo." Follow popular users in these categories. • Add your interests to your bio. This helps others to find you. • Add a face shot as your avatar. This makes you seem more trustable. Eggheads don't get followed.

CHANGE ORDER OF TWITTER ACCOUNTS If you have multiple Twitter accounts, some Twitter-connected apps only let you access the first one listed in your Twitter settings. Accounts on your iPad are listed in the order you install them. Delete your accounts. Then install them with the one you want as your main account first.

TRES COOL TWITTER TOOLS As twitter is so public, in addition to Twitter's own search abilities, numerous Twitter tools are available to help you tweet, get followers and analyze: • http://twittercounter.com — The best analytics tool for your Twitter account. • http://friendorfollow.com — Tells you which of your followers are following back. Helps you eliminate those that have no interest in you. • http://paper.li — Creates a newspaper based on tweets of you and your followers. • http://twitaholic.com — Shows your local and worldwide ranking on Twitter. • http://twtrfrnd.com — Compare followers between two users. • http://brandtweet.com — Reveals your twitter effectiveness. • http://timely.is — Schedules tweets for your proven popular times.

TWITTER DIRECTORIES These allow you to search for potential followers as well as add your own entry to get more followers. • http://justtweetit.com/ — Gives you a directory by interest. • http://www.twellow.com — Twitter Yellow Pages where you can list yourself. • http://twiends.com — Tells you users with your interests. • http://wefollow.com — Returns Twitter users by topic.

iPad Keyboard Tricks

MULTIPLE SPACES Put multiple fingers on the spacebar for multiple spaces. Four fingers is like adding a tab.

WRONG CHARACTER If you typed the wrong character, if your finger hasn't left the keyboard, just slide to the correct key.

CAP A CHARACTER Hold the Shift key and slide to the character.

ADD A WORD TO THE DICTIONARY Go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Shortcuts and enter the word in the Phrase field, but leave the Shortcut field blank. Now it won't be identified as misspelled.

Shortcuts is a customized Autocomplete. To add a shortcut: Home > Settings > General > Keyboard > Shortcuts. Some practical uses:
• ADD CHARACTERS FROM OTHER KEYBOARDS Adding parenthesis can be cumbersome, since you have to call up the number keyboard twice. This quickly calls up a set of them. Put 3 Xs in the middle to easily place the cursor by double tapping and replacing. Abbreviation: ppar Content: (XXX)
• ADD CHARACTERS NOT ON THE KEYBOARD With apps like Uniconsole (http://bit.ly/e6uWZm) you can access characters like the copyright symbol, trademark symbols and hundreds of others not on the keyboard. Copy the character in the Uniconsole app and paste it in as content. Abbreviation: ccopy, Content: ©
• ADD ACCENTED WORDS like "résumé." and "café"**. Abbreviation: resume, Content: résumé
• SPELL HELPER Autocomplete can't correct when you miss the space bar and hit the "n" key instead. Abbreviation: thenblog, Content: the blog
• EXPAND TXT Turn txt acronyms into real words. Abbreviation: afik, Content: As far as I know

App: SketchTime for iPad review.

Cool drawing app with simple controls: 20 colors, 10 sizes of expressive pen and nice marker wash. This is one of the fastest. May be tops in the App Store for speedy expression.

ROCKS:
• No annoying sliders or color wheels that keep you from getting the same results next time.
• Export to Camera Roll, Twitter or email as JPG or PNG with transparent background.
• "Play" replays drawing of your sketch.
• Draw on photo or use to trace.

KNOCKS:
• First stroke of pen sometimes "sticks" and you need to redo.
• No video export of Play.
